There are several sites online where you can buy vintage celebrity clothing worn by celebrities but one of the most notorious sites for finding this type of used clothing is thefrock.com. That is where the super-wealthy contemporary starlet or collector is buying the clothing they wear to parties or out on the red carpet.

Not all celebrities go to Prada, Vivienne Westwood or Betsy Johnson and buy the latest whacked retro-look. Quite a few very famous individuals shop almost exclusively in vintage stores. Both Drew Barrymore and Winona Ryder are famous for wearing their thrift store finds on the red carpet, talk shows and out for a stroll hand-in-hand with a boyfriend.  Barrymore wowed the world with a 1980s outfit she wore on the David Letterman show. Wearing vintage clothing is not just for young actresses. Sharon Stone collects vintage cashmere sweaters. Although she does not wear vintage as much as Ryder or Barrymore, beautiful Julia Roberts set a trend for wearing vintage ball gowns when she wore a vintage Valentino dress to the Oscars a few years ago. The dress was a black crepe de chine and chiffon number that had vertical stripes.   Renee Zellweger also did the same, wearing a buttercup yellow strapless gown on the red carpet.

Kim  and Kourtney Kardashion was photographed with their mother Kris Jenner at the Calabasas Shopping Center recently.  The photo shoot seemed to prove that as always, this is a duo that seems to spend a lot of money only in the end to look like they went shopping at Winners and Walmart.

For some reason, on that day, Kim Kardashian seemed to dress like a banana complete with little short yellow shawl colored blazer in banana yellow paired with a  baggy white shirt and way too tight and glossy shiny leather jeans. By contrast sister Kourtney seemed to put no effort into her appearance wearing a sloppy gray shirt with long sleeves, leggings and boring flesh colored flats.

Particularly tacky on Kim were the large platform heels with their foreshortened toes that looked a bit too much like Japanese foot bondage. Kim’s zippered bag and coin necklace probably cost thousands but the choice of clothing but she still looked like she picked up some plastic and pleather from Target.

Mom Kris looked equally out of it, wearing some kind of prissy version of a heavy motorcycle boot with leggings and a black jacket with a capelet.  She was also carrying an enormous purple bag that looked like it would make a great get-away cottage for the Dinosaur Barney.  To see pics of the Out to Lunch Kardashians CLICK HERE

Rounder, plumper women are coming back into fashion. This might be the result of the recent renaissance for everything to do with Marilyn Monroe who was curvaceous, not bony and skanky, as the Lindsay Lohan portrayal in Playboy would have us believe.

As weak as Michelle William’s performance was in My Week With Marilyn she does get kudos for packing on a few pounds to pay the role (not to mention bleach her hair.)  Formerly a waif, Williams pulled a Renee Zellweger  (Zellweger put on 28 pounds to play Bridget in Bridget Jones diary) and packed on the fat so she would jiggle correctly onscreen.

Julia Roberts also was a little heavier than usual in Eat, Pray Love which was about loosening up a little and eating as way to enlightenment. However you have to be disappointed in an actress that becomes rail-thin again after playing such a refreshing role model for younger woman.

There are two great heavier young actresses in Hollywood. One is Scarlet Johansson and the other is Kate Winslet. No matter what they do these two actresses manage to shine onscreen. They are voluptuous and beautiful and should be praised for polarizing the beauty median away from the stick thin ideal beauty.

Scarlet is the New Marilyn!

Poor Lindsay Lohan has a lot of lost credibility thanks to her adventures with drugs and alcohol.  Apparently when she is sober she is still accused of being drunk, which is actually not that uncommon with recovering alcoholics. Also relapsing celebrities sell tabloids and newspapers. Lohan will be rueing the day she was caught drunk driving as a teen for her entire life because celebrities are never given the same kinds of second chances that mere mortals are when it comes to being trusted again. They are expected to fall from grace.

The problem with Lohan is that she does not seem to be visibly practicing any steps or attending a rehab. Instead she is out partying. Even though she insists she was drinking only bottled water at the SAG awards post-party at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles the tabloids went wild accusing her of drinking.

Another problem is that she was at the Chateau Marmont where she used to have a room and do a great deal of very hard partying. True recovering addicts make an effort to not go or be seen where they once had such a terrible problem.

Like so many supermodels before her, Georgia May Jagger has a huge gap in her very large front teeth and has no problem posing half nude on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar sporting her beaver like front fangs.  Her mother, also one of the biggest supermodels in history (she left Bryan Ferry for Mick Jagger and Ferry almost died of a broken heart) in the nineties) thanks her daughter for reviving her career. The mother and daughter team were recently featured in a U.K. modeling catalogue for H& M.

There has been a lot of buzz lately about Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall’s daughter Georgia gracing the cover of Harper’s Bazaar however this is not exactly a first in the modeling world. The very first model to be told she was cute for having this sort of flaw was also one of the world’s most famous supermodels – Lauren Hutton.  The gap-toothed look is also signature of model Lara Stone and Abby Lee Kershaw. Gap-teeth are considered to be so photogenic and quirky that Tyra Banks even advised a model to shave a gap between her two front teeth on America’s Top Model in Fall 2010. Another famous gap-toothed celebrity is Madonna.

Designer Jean Paul Gaultier decided to hold a tribute to singer Amy Winehouse today by presenting a catwalk collection of clothing in which all of the models were dressed up to look like Amy complete with thick black eyeliner and mountainous black wigs with spilling curls.  The family of the deceased singer was very critical of the designer’s timing for the collection. According to The Sun in the U.K., the singer’s father Mitch was very upset about the exploitation of his daughter’s image to sell clothing as was close friend Kelly Osborne who claimed the show to be evil.  Her father was upset to see black veils on models, smoking cigarettes while Barbershop quartets sang big Winehouse hits like “Rehab”  in the background.

Still if you look at this show you will see a lot of beauty came out of a great deal of tragedy. The clothes are very forties/rockabilly in style worn with very high platform shoes.  Featured items include a high waisted satin skirt that flows to mid-calf worn with black vinyl wristbands and a white shirt, a green and orange house-coat dress, vinyl bustiers and see-through striped shirts.

Finally it seems that one country in the world is getting it right when it comes to truth in advertising Recently a Rachel Weisz L’Oreal Ad was pulled from the media by Britain’s Advertising Standard’s Council claiming that the actress looked too unreal to live up to the promises of the product. The ad for L’Oréal’s Revitalift Repair 10 claims to make the skin luminous and although the BAS did agree that in the photo of the ad her skin really does look luminous they would not agree that anyone’s face would look so smooth and wrinkle free from using such a product.

Other ads that look a bit too good to be true have also been pulled including Julia Roberts for Lanacome, Christy Turlington for Maybelline and Taylor Swift for Covergirl. In the case of Taylor Swift  her eyelashes were a lot thicker than any mascara application could ever promise.  Both Christy Turlington and Julia Roberts looked far too youthful for their years in their cosmetic ads, so much so that it was almost embarrassing to the actresses. It’s about time ads were pulled for excessive photoshop use as promising an ideal is not enough.

Angelina Jolie has always excelled at looking like an extra in Twilight but this year’s dress that she wore to the SAG Awards in Hollywood takes the cake. The  long dragging halter by Jenny Packham looks like a well-tailored extra large heavy duty black garbage bag completely with old lady cowl and high-waisted drama.  To get a nice view of this dress, which makes the white and red number coffin dress she wore to the Golden Globes award look downright chipper CLICK HERE

Meryl Streep was also looking a bit peckish for some blood in her Vivienne Westwood “shroud.”  The steel gray long sleeved gown was covered with a floor length coal colored chiffon scarf that was belted at the waist with a thick weathered three hole brown biker belt.  This sort of made her look like the Ma Barker of Vampires.

Tilda Swinton also looked a tad unearthly in what was supposed to be a Katherine Hepburn style Hollywood forties gown with padded shoulders and a plunging V neck. However the high waist and tight wrist wrinkled wrist of this pure white dress together with the pale head-head’s slash of red lipstick makes her look like someone ethereal rising from the grave … to see a picture CLICK HERE
